Sorry for the disappearance, but I’m back! As usual: a big thank you to everyone who has supported my blog (both in-person and online through kind words, thoughtful comments, viewership, shares, and likes). I was happy and proud to see traffic remain consistent even when I, as a writer, was not.
Typically, my posts are polished thoughts: reviews, advice, personal-reflection, or social commentary. But this one will be different. A window into my life, not for a take-away lesson but a courtesy… an explanation as to where I’ve been these two months.
I completed a grand total of one blog post (Womp Womp) but it’s one I’m really proud of: Kyle Smith’s “Women are not capable of understanding Goodfellas” article offends me as a Feminist and even more as an English Major
I spent the rest of the time relaxing and cleaning/packing before our family vacation to LA and my subsequent trip to Dallas, Texas for work.
I spent one week in the beautiful city of Los Angeles: reunited with my extended family, hiked up to the hollywood sign, went to a LA Galaxy game, ran a 10k on Santa Monica beach, ate lots of great food, checked out some cool stores, and visited a bunch of places (such as The Giffith Observatory, MOCA, The Getty Center, Universal Studios, and Venice Beach):
Almost two days back in Chicago, one of which I spent watching Mexico’s national team play live at Soldier Field:
Next was a 22 hour Megabus ride from Chicago to Dallas, Texas to work at SuperCamp.
I arrived at UT Dallas for staff training and an exhausting, fun, inspiring 10 days of SuperCamp’s Senior Forum:
One day off, staff training again, and then I worked SuperCamp’s Leadership Forum. Even though it was a camp (still at UT Dallas) with the same organization it was a completely new experience and–much like Senior Forum–I learned so much from my colleagues and the campers.:
22 hour bus ride back home from Dallas, Texas to Chicago:
I got home around 11:15 on August 5th. It’s been a bit of an Odyssey. Tomorrow will mark my first week back home since June 30th and I’m still trying to get my footing. In 3 weeks I’ll be moving into La Casa to begin student teaching in Chicago through ACM’s Urban Education Program. So I’m feeling the need to do everything and absolutely nothing. But right now I’m just excited to get back to writing.
COMING UP on the blog…
More comic book looks (Ex-Machina (the first hundred days), The ODY-C, and a Saga Post in anticipation of Volume 5)
More Poetry Spotlights (specific poems TBD)
New Student teaching posts (oh god)
New Dialect Privilege Project (details to come! But this is basically an expansion of my previous work)
And of course, other posts as more comes to mind. As usual, feel free to comment with suggestions on literature pieces to analyze, education topics to discuss, undergrad questions to answer, or anything else you’d like covered!
